PRESTONSBURG — A local business is teaming up with a national child safety group to offer parents a little peace of mind.

ABCO Security and KlaasKids Foundation will sponsor a “Child Safety Day Print-A-Thon” event Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Families going to ABCO’s office, located at 3117 Route 321, in Prestonsburg, will receive a free child-safety kit, including digitized fingerprints, an updated photo, a DNA collection kit developed by the California DNA Laboratory, child safety tips and a nine-point plan on what steps parents can take in the event a child disappears.

The KlaasKids Foundation is a national child safety group created following the 1993 kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Polly Klaas. The foundation sponsors programs designed to promote awareness and education for parents and children in an effort to protect children from violence.

Since 1994, similar “Print-A-Thon” events have fingerprinted and photographed more than 1 million children, at no cost to their families.

Marc Klaas, father of Polly Klaas and founder of KlaasKids, will be at ABCO the day of the event.
