Betsy Layne girls claim district win over P’burg

PRESTONSBURG - The Betsy Layne Ladycats notched their third straight win Friday night, defeating host Prestonsburg 59-19 at the Prestonsburg Fieldhouse.

Sophomore guard Timera Thacker paced Betsy Layne with a game-high 14 points. Finishing one shot shy of her teammate’s game-high scoring total, sophomore guard Brandy Morrow added 13 points for the Ladycats.

Betsy Layne established an early lead and quickly pulled away from Prestonsburg. The Ladycats outscored Prestonsburg 19-4 in the opening quarter and took a 31-8 lead into intermission.

Betsy Layne featured 10 different scorers. Francescha Brunati netted six points and Katie Tackett added five for the Ladycats.

Paige Watkins, Recznik, Kelsi Tackett and Kayce Tackett each had four points for the Betsy Layne girls’ basketball team.

Emily Kidd and Kaitlin Kidd rounded out the Betsy Layne scoring with three and two points, respectively.

Betsy Layne led 49-18 at the end of the third quarter.

Eighth-grader Allison Hall paced Prestonsburg with five points. Seventh-grader Jana Jarvis and freshmen Jackie Kidd and Morgan Marshall chipped in four points apiece for the Lady Blackcats.

Betsy Layne is scheduled to host Prestonsburg in a late 58th District/Floyd County Conference matchup Feb. 8.
