JENKINS – Betsy Layne ended the 2009 season on a winning note Friday night. The Bobcats snapped a six-game losing streak, defeating Jenkins 40-21.

Betsy Layne dominated the Jenkins defense, rolling up 426 yards of total offense. The Bobcats rushed for a total of 386 yards.

Casey Adkins led Betsy Layne on the offensive side. Adkins rushed 14 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns.

Dylan Maldonado joined Adkins in the 100 yards rushing category for the Bobcats. Maldonado took nine carries for 101 yards and one touchdown.

Korey Jarrell (8 carries, 90 yards) and Nathan Martin (3 carries, 40 yards) were also active and rushed the football with much success for the Bobcats.

Martin hooked up with Bobcat receivers on 7-of-12 passing attempts, finishing with 140 yards and one score.

Jarrell grabbed three receptions for 100 yards and one touchdown.

Betsy Layne remained out in front of the home team. Jenkins, however, moved the football and scored three touchdowns.

Maldonado, who provided eight tackles, intercepted a Jenkins pass and returned it 104 yards for a touchdown. The interception ranks as a Betsy Layne school record.

Adkins provided a team-high 14 tackles for the Bobcats. Jarrell made 13 tackles and Tyler Recznik exited the contest with nine stops.

Betsy Layne, which reached the Class A State Playoffs for the first time in school history during the 2008 season, concluded the campaign 3-7. Losses to district rivals Phelps and South Floyd prevented Betsy Layne from returning to the postseason. The Bobcats defeated Burch, W.Va. and Jackson County for their other wins this season.
