Bobcats eliminate South Floyd from postseason

EASTERN – Frontrunner Betsy Layne punched its ticket for the 58th District championship game on Thursday, defeating South Floyd 68-35 at Allen Central High School’s J. E. Campbell Arena.

With the win, Betsy Layne (22-4) advanced to the 58th District championship game.

Sophomore Dylan Meade led Betsy Layne with a game-high 22 points. Freshman Peyton Case pushed in 15 points, junior Garran Newsome netted 11 and senior Andrew Roberts added 10 for the Bobcats.

Betsy Layne set the tone early, outscoring South Floyd 16-2 in the opening quarter.

The Bobcats controlled the contest. Betsy Layne took a 27-13 lead over South Floyd into halftime and opened the second half strong, outscoring the Bobcats 18-7 in the third quarter.

Blake Spencer scored four points while Dylan Hamilton, Charles Daniels and Landon Hale added two each for Betsy Layne in the district tournament game.

Senior Brandon Marson led South Floyd with a team-best 15 points. Sophomore Tyler Daniels followed, adding eight points for South Floyd in the season-ending loss.

South Floyd, which defeated the Piarist School in a play-in game to get the opportunity to play two-time defending champion Betsy Layne, ended the season 6-21.
