PRESTONSBURG – Former University of Kentucky basketball star Derrick Miller was indicted this past week by a grand jury on charges that he sold phony a set of phony UK season tickets to a Floyd County woman.

According to the indictment, Miller took $1,800 from Sandy Roberts, promising her two season tickets on Oct. 10, 2008, for UK’s 2009-10 season, when he allegedly never had the tickets.

The indictment is not Miller’s first on such charges.

While already indicted on similar counts in Lexington, Miller was jailed in Clark County on two counts of theft by deception, the charge he now faces in Floyd County.

In addition, the former UK standout, who played from the 1986-87 season through the 1989-90 season with the Wildcats, has had the same complaints brought against him in several other counties and totaling some 20 individuals who say they were deceived by Miller.

A holder of the individual game-scoring record in Rupp Arena, for a game in which he scored 40 points in 1990, Miller’s senior season during which he was the leading scorer for the Cats with 19 points a game.

Miller is also not the only former UK basketball player now facing charges for selling tickets to UK games prosecutors say he never possessed.

Ed Davender, a former UK guard from 1984 until 1988 who is 11th on UK’s all-time men’s scoring list, also faces charges of selling UK fans season tickets without providing the tickets in exchange for cash.

According to reports from the Lexington Herald-Leader, Lexington police had received nearly 100 calls about the alleged ticket scams and Miller was brought into the case following the high-profile case surrounding Davender.
