PAINTSVILLE - Dwight Jarrell, manager of the Harold-Allen-Prater 9-10-year-old All-Stars, stresses baseball fundamentals. He also stresses hustle and aggressiveness. For the HAP 9-10-year-olds, all of this has paid off. Through two games, the HAP all-star squad has outscored opponents 29-5. HAP opened play Saturday in the District 7 All-Star Tournament. Against Floyd County rival Beaver Creek, HAP had little trouble, winning 15-3 in five innings. HAP's youngest all-star team returned to competition on Monday and defeated Magoffin County 14-2.

HAP plated three runs in the top half of the first inning against Beaver Creek. The HAP All-Stars never trailed in the win over Beaver Creek. But the game was close at times. HAP scored 12 runs in the fifth inning and held Beaver Creek to just one run in its half of the fifth inning en route to the victory.

HAP starting shortstop Michael Henson had a home run in Monday's win over Magoffin County. HAP went ahead 3-0 in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Jarredd Jarrell, who also caught for the HAP All-Stars, got the game going when he reached base first and in quick fashion came around to score.

Magoffin County answered with a run in the bottom half of the opening inning and didn't score another run until the final frame.

HAP starting pitcher Bryson Williams recorded the win over Magoffin County. Henson came on and pitched the final inning.

HAP added three runs in the second inning and two apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.

The HAP 9-10-year-olds (2-0) had yesterday evening and last night off.
