James E. Vanderpool, 76, of Garrett died Wednesday January 9, 2013 at the Greg and Norine Hospice Center in Hazard. He was born January 10, 1936 to the late Beckhorn and Gertrude Wallen Vanderpool. James was the husband of the late Geraldine Moore Vanderpool and was a retired coal miner.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Everett Vanderpool, Bruce Vanderpool & Glen Vanderpool.

He is survived by one daughter: Glema Kay Howard of Garrett; two brothers: Charles Vanderpool and David Vanderpool; two sisters: Juanita Salisbury & Linda Cox both of Mich.; two grandchildren: Michael Howard & Rachel Johnson and four great grandchildren: Austin, Andrew & Asia Johnson & Curtis Howard.

Funeral services will be held Sunday January 13, 2012 10:00 a.m. at Stone Coal Old Regular Baptist Church in Garrett with Roger Hicks and others officiating.

Burial will follow the service at Conley Cemetery on Rock Fork.
