PIKEVILLE – Spring football practice will wrap up on Wednesday for the University of Pikeville and fans are being invited to the final session.
The Orange & Black Spring Game will take place at the W.C. Hambley Athletics Complex, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
Coach Dudley Hilton’s Bears were 4-6 in his first season at the helm and more than 100 players attended the organizational meeting in the spring, the most in school history during the spring semester.
“We’ve had a solid spring and are excited to showcase the talent we have for our fans,” said Hilton. “We have a lot of returning talent and had some very good athletes sitting out or who have transferred in. We’re looking forward to a great night to wrap up the hard work our guys have put in.”
Rising senior quarterback Trevor Hoskins returns and will be in action on Wednesday night. Last season Hoskins threw for 2,654 yards and 27 touchdowns. He is the career and single-season record holder in all five passing categories at the school.
John Dudley Hilton returns at linebacker after leading the Bears with 73 tackles as a true freshman. Junior-to-be Larry West was one of the national leaders with seven interceptions a year ago.
Sophomore-to-be Grayson Quick was named to the all-level All-Commonwealth team after a remarkable freshman season handling the kicking chores. He was 40-of-42 on PATs, hit 4-of-6 field goals and averaged 40.7 yards per punt in 2011.
