PRESTONSBURG - Prestonsburg hosted Betsy Layne for a 58th District/Floyd County Conference baseball game Thursday evening but was the visiting team on the scoreboard. That didn’t matter, though. Prestonsburg cruised to its seventh straight win, defeating Betsy Layne 13-1 in five innings via the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) 10-Run Mercy Rule.
Adam Griffith pitched and went the district for Prestonsburg in the district/conference matchup. Griffith limited Betsy Layne en route to the win.
Prestonsburg thrived offensively early, scoring three runs in the opening inning. The Blackcats owned a commanding 8-1 lead at the end of the second frame.
Distancing itself from Betsy Layne, Prestonsburg added four runs in the third inning.
Bryson Williams and Aaron Griffith each had two singles for the Blackcats.
Jonathan Brock scored Betsy Layne’s lone run in the second inning.
Peyton Case made the start on the mound for the Bobcats. Case was hit hard early. The Betsy Layne starting pitcher was replaced in the second inning.
