PRESTONSBURG — Parents need a break, too, and that’s just what they got Wednesday at the Mountain Arts Center, as the Floyd County Family Resource and Youth Services Centers put on their 20th annual “Give Yourself a Break Day.”
The event held was held Wednesday at the MAC from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Brian Akers, with the Betsy Layne Family Resource Center, says the 20-year-old event has been a countywide collaboration now for 15 years.
“Everyone in the county is invited to come,” said Akers. “We give away a lot of door prizes.”
“We normally have parents come out and have a day of enjoyment,” said Akers. The event provides attendees with free food, door prizes and information. Akers estimated at there were 60 people in attendance.
The event began with a welcome from Floyd County Schools Supt. Henry Webb.
Guests at the event were treated to a visit from motivational speaker Joe Washington, as well as entertainment by Munroe and an informational session from Tonya Fugate, of the Regional Prevention Center.
“She is doing a presentation on synthetic drugs and marijuana,” said Akers.
The event also featured Lola Ratliff from the Floyd County Schools, who put together several activities for parents.
