Parsons named Class 2A, District 8 Coach of the Year

BETSY LAYNE - Betsy Layne head coach Jonathan Parsons has been named the Class 2A, District 8 Coach of the Year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.

Under the direction of Parsons, Betsy Layne compiled a 7-4 record in the 2012 season. The Bobcats registered a 7-3 regular-season record, claiming wins over South Floyd, Allen Central, Knott County Central, Paintsville, Hannan (W.Va.), Shelby Valley and Jenkins.

Parsons has guided Betsy Layne to three straight winning seasons. The Bobcats haven’t endured a losing campaign since 2009.

In the 2012 season, Betsy Layne outscored opponents 374-269 and rolled up 4,000 yards of total offense. The Bobcats also rushed for 2,583 yards in 11 games.

Junior quarterback Dylan Hamilton led the Betsy Layne offense, completing 104-of-203 passes for 1,778 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Two Betsy Layne running backs flirted with the 1,000 yards rushing plateau. Josh Salisbury led Betsy Layne on the ground, rushing 112 times for 921 yards and seven touchdowns.

Houston Hall wasn’t too far behind Hamilton in the rushing column. Hall rushed 105 times for 870 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, Betsy Layne held four of 11 opponents to 14 points or less.

Betsy Layne competes in Class 2A, District 8 along with Prestonsburg, Leslie County and Shelby Valley.
