Piarist sweeps Riverside Christian

LOST CREEK - Piarist School girls’ and boys’ basketball teams combined to sweep Riverside Christian Monday night. Each Piarist team halted a losing streak thanks to its respective victory. More on each game follows.

Girls - Piarist School 70, Riverside Christian 27: The Piarist School Lady Knights pulled away to defeat host Riverside Christian 70-27 Monday night.

Piarist improved to 2-3 after posting the win. The Lady Knights stopped a three-game losing streak.

Remaining winless, Riverside Christian dropped to 0-6 after suffering the loss.

Three different Piarist players reached double figures in the scoring column. Cathryn Calhoun led Piarist with a game-high 24 points. Kelli Akers pushed in 23 points and Shelby Lemaster added 13 for the Lady Knights.

Piarist was five-of-19 from 3-point range. The Lady Knight shot 38.2 percent (26-of-68) from the field.

Jessi Hale led Piarist on the boards, grabbing a game-high 22 rebounds.

Hale scored four points, Christi Rose tossed in three and Lauren Wright added two for the Lady Knights.

Taylor Eckle scored on a free throw for the Piarist girls’ basketball team.

As team, Piarist pulled in a season-high single-game 54 rebounds.

Piarist is scheduled to host Pike County Central Friday night.

Boys - Piarist School 87, Riverside Christian 50: The Piarist School boys’ basketball team posted its second win in the 2012-13 season on Monday night, upending host Riverside Christian 87-50.

With the win, Piarist improved to 2-4. Prior to defeating Riverside Christian, Piarist had dropped four straight games.

Riverside Christian dropped to 0-9 after suffering the loss.

Five Piarist players reached double figures in t he scoring column. Three of the five Piarist players in double figures in the scoring column registered double-doubles.

Tyler Stumbo (game-high 28 points, five rebounds), Michael Williams (24 points, 15 rebounds), Ben Dennison (11 points, game-high 21 rebounds), Galvin Greene (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Subhash Gutti (10 points, six rebounds) led the way for the Knights.

Piarist was 13-of-20 from the free throw line.

James McCarty and Skylar Williams rounded out the Piarist scoring with two points apiece.

Piarist dominated inside, claiming 76 total rebounds.
