BETSY LAYNE – South Floyd won its first game of the season in dramatic fashion Friday night. The Raiders defeated district rival Betsy Layne 40-38 in a road game.
Freshman Westin Little led the way for visiting South Floyd. Little – South Floyd’s newfound offensive standout – rushed 14 times for 224 yards and three touchdowns.
Raider running back David Slone rushed 13 times for 88 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Dakota Newsome scored one touchdown for South Floyd.
Tyler Moore picked up 58 yards through five carries for South Floyd in its away matchup against one of two in-county district foes.
Newsome was nearly perfect passing the football for the Raiders. The South Floyd quarterback completed 6-of-7 passes for 60 yards.
Tyler Moore and David Slone hauled in two receptions apiece for the Raiders.
Cory Boyd grabbed a 30-yard catch for South Floyd.
Despite surrendering 38 points, the South Floyd defense delivered big plays. Newsome and Luke Rhea both had an interception for the Raiders.
South Floyd will host Pikeville Friday in another district game. Betsy Layne will entertain district foe Paintsville.
