Russell Samons, age 63, of Martin, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, at Community Hospice Cancer Center.

Born April 13, 1946, in Martin, he was a son of the late Paul and Eva Kilburn Samons, and was a disabled foundry worker.

He is survived by Dora Reed, his companion of 35 years; seven daughters: Deborah Samons of Albion, Michigan; Teresa (Tim) Wise of Marshall, Michigan; Sandy (Larry) Childers of Martin; Alice Ousley of Rochester, Indiana; Berniece (Jerry) Filback of Louisville; Sue (Ray) Shepherd of Gunlock; Clesia (Jerry) McCoy of Harrodsburg; and Crystal Brown; four sons: Jack (Kim) Reed of Fremont, Indiana; Joe (Pam) Reed of Louisville; Michael (Sheila) Reed of Tippecanoe, Indiana; and David Reed of Hazard; two brothers: Jesse (Deanna) Samons of Vero Beach, Florida; and Hardy (Verlie) Samons of Wabash, Indiana; three sisters: Helen Stumbo and Loretta (Dick) Marshall, both of North Manchester, Indiana; and Elenor Wells of Wabash, Indiana; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, 45 stepgrandchildren, and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son: Phillip Reed; two sisters: Paulette Butcher and Cosetta Knight.

Services were held Monday, June 29, at 11 a.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, with Ellis Stephens, and others, officiating.

Burial was in the Crum-Samons Cemetery (Arkansas Creek) in Martin.

Visitation was at the funeral Home.
