Show respect and consideration

My name is Betty Cook, and I have been a volunteer firefighter for our local fire department for several years. I answer calls to wrecks as well as house fire. I am writing this letter to express my views on how I have been treated.

On Aug. 3, I was helping to direct traffic on Abner Mountain when a truck failed to stop for me. Not only was I placed in danger, I was cursed at as well.

In a time like this, I know from experience that everything goes through one’s mind, from worrying and being scared and not thinking straight. But I would like to stress how would he feel if someone put a member of his family in danger while he or she was volunteering their time for the good of others.

This is my own point of view and I will be at the next accident if I am available, no matter who it may be, even if it is the one who did me this way.

I am very respectful of anyone that puts their life on the line to help others. Hopefully that was an isolated incident about the trucker. Some people have no respect for anything unless it involves them. Keep up the great work.

I think that it is very wonderful to see people dedicate their time and energy to help others. I myself greatly appreciate people like you who have compassion and do things out of sincerity, and you do deserve the up most respect. I am very sorry to hear the way you were disrespected and I hope that you never have any other experiences like that again. Thank you for helping our community out
