LOUISVILLE - A Floyd County doctor who was recently charged with a child pornography related offense had his license to practice medicine in the state of Kentucky suspended last week.

According to an emergency order issued by the Board of Medical Licensure, the license of Dr. Bret Dunning, to practice osteopathy medicine was immediately suspended last Wednesday after a police investigation uncovered images of child pornography on Dunning’s home computer.

Kentucky State Police officials executed a search warrant on Dunning’s home computer on April 30 following an online investigation.

Dunning, 50, of Dana, owns and operates the Dunning Medical Clinic located next door to the Learning Ladder Academy preschool. The clinic has been closed since May 3.

According to the findings of fact listed in the order of suspension, the board can infer probable cause to “believe that the physician has committed certain violations in the recent past presents probable cause to believe that the physician will commit similar violations in the near future, during the course of the physicians medical practice.”

The order also states that there is probable cause to believe that Dunning’s practice presents a danger to the health and safety of his patients and the general public.

Dunning was allegedly found in possession of several pictures which portrayed sexual acts by children estimated to be between the ages of 4 and 7.

Dunning posted a cash bond of $25,000 and was released under the conditions that he stay 1000 feet from any school, daycare or place where there are under age children; not allowed to possess any computer or electronics device, and strict home confinement.

Dunning appeared in Floyd County District court on May 15 for preliminary hearing. Following the hearing, Dunning’s case was remanded to the Floyd County Grand Jury.
