PRESTONSBURG — The former director of the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce was recently indicted with charges of forgery and theft.

According to indictments handed down on July 18 by a Floyd County grand jury, Amanda Stumbo, 32, of McDowell, was serving as director of the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce when she committed two felony offenses of second-degree forgery and theft by unlawful taking.

The indictment states that from September 2010 though November 2011 Stumbo was acting with, “intent to defraud, deceive, or injure another” when she “falsely made, completed, or altered a written instrument, when she signed the names of board members of the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce to checks without their knowledge or consent.”

Stumbo also allegedly took property that belonged to the chamber valued at more than $500.

According to records, Stumbo left her position as director in October 2011. Thomas Rainey, then vice chairman of the board, would not comment at the time as to the reasons behind Stumbo’s departure or whether she left voluntarily.

Both of the charges against Stumbo are class D felonies. If found guilty, she could receive 1-to-5 years imprisonment for each charge and fines of $1,000 to $10,000.
