Vice-led Bears win UPIKE Jump Start

PRESTONSBURG – Lauren Vice shot a career-low round of 75 for the University of Pikeville women’s golf team on Sunday to help it top Purdue Northwest 671-741 in the two-day, head-to-head UPIKE Jump Start at StoneCrest Golf Course.

Vice’s two-round total of 157 (82-75) strokes was a career-best as well as she finished first out of the 10-golfer field. UPIKE’s Adrian Mason took second place with a 163 (80-83) and their teammate Ashley Veach rounded out the top three by carding a 167 (86-81).

The Pride’s top finisher was Lauren Bailey who took fourth place overall with a score of 170 (91-79).

UPIKE led 340-385 after the opening round on Saturday before posting a leading score of 331-356 on Sunday. Both teams shot better during the second round with the Bears improving by nine strokes and the Pride knocking off 29.

Vice led the field in birdies with four, while Veach and Bailey tied for the lead in pars with 18 each. Vice and Mason were the only two golfers in the field to shoot an even score on par-five holes for the tournament.
