PRESTONSBURG – The Prestonsburg High School girls’ soccer team finished 3-0-1 in the Eastern Kentucky Soccer Conference Soccerama at StoneCrest on Saturday.
First-year head coach Paul Burchett is guiding the Lady Blackcats. Burchett replaced former head coach Scott Porter.
The Prestonsburg girls’ soccer team posted wins over Johnson Central, Belfry and Pikeville while tying 16th Region title contender during the preseason event held over the weekend.
“The soccerama went really well,” Burchett said. “We tied Boyd County 0-0 in our first game, beat Johnson Central 1-0, beat Belfry 2-0 and beat Pikeville 2-0. Overall, I was pleased with the girls’ effort. Defensively, we were very strong all day, which I expected. I feel like right now that’s the strength of our team. Offensively, we got better as the day went on but there’s still a lot of room to improve. The girls know that, they are working hard to improve and they will. On the day, we were led by Carly Burchett and Hannah Little with two goals each. Jackie Kidd added a goal as well. Defensively, we allowed no goals on the day and only a few shots. The back line was outstanding anchored by goalkeepers Maddy Ousley and Hannah Stratton.”
Teams from multiple regions competed in the Prestonsburg/StoneCrest-hosted soccerama.
Prestonsburg is scheduled to visit Pikeville on Aug. 18.
