Rebels picked to win fifth consecutive region title

EASTERN – Allen Central has been picked to win its fifth consecutive 15th Region volleyball championship. The Rebels, under the direction of veteran head coach Larry Maynard, occupy the number one spot in the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason 15th Region Poll, which was released on Friday.

Two Floyd County rivals accompany Allen Central in the preseason poll. Betsy Layne is ranked fourth while South Floyd is tied for fifth.

East Ridge is projected to finish second and Pikeville third in the 15th Region.

Paintsville is tied with South Floyd for fifth in the preseason poll.

Allen Central ended the 2014 season 31-8. The Rebels lost to Owensboro Catholic in the first round of the KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament.

Allen Central is slated to visit 15th Region foe Phelps for a season-opener on Aug. 18.

Other preseason regional favorites are McCracken County (1st Region), Henderson County (2nd Region), Apollo (3rd Region), South Warren (4th Region), Central Hardin (5th Region), Mercy (6th Region), Assumption (7th Region), North Oldham (8th Region), Notre Dame (9th Region), Scott (10th Region), Henry Clay (11th Region), Southwestern (12th Region), Corbin (13th Region), Letcher County Central (14th Region) and Raceland (16th Region).
