MSC men’s and women’s soccer preseason polls released

PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville men’s and women’s soccer teams were both picked to finish eighth in their respective Mid-South Conference Preseason Coaches’ Polls, league officials announced on Wednesday.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams as Lindsey Wilson found itself as the favorite in both editions. The Blue Raider women, with seven first-place votes, are the defending NAIA National Champions and the men, with the same amount of first-place nods,have captured the last two MSC Regular-Season titles.

UPIKE picked up 13 voting points in the women’s poll and seven in the men’s. The men wrapped up last season with a 3-9-1 overall record and 1-5-1 mark in conference play, while the women went 8-9 overall and 2-5 in the MSC to finish in sixth place.

A rundown of the men’s poll includes Campbellsville in second place and Cumberland (Tenn.) and St. Catharine tying for third with St. Catharine claiming the remaining first-place vote. Cumberlands is fifth, Shawnee State (Ohio) is sixth and Georgetown is one spot ahead of the Bears in seventh, despite UPIKE claiming wins in the last two regular-season matchups.

The women’s rundown includes Cumberland (Tenn.) being picked second with the remaining first-place vote, Campbellsville and Shawnee State (Ohio) are tied for third, Georgetown is fifth, St. Catharine is sixth and Cumberlands comes in seventh.

UPIKE will open its men’s schedule on Aug. 29 against Ohio Christian at Bob Amos Park. The UPIKE women will get started on Aug. 21 at Florida College in Temple Terrace, Fla.
