HI HAT – South Floyd visited Powell County for a final preseason tuneup over the weekend. Under the direction of first-year head coach Chad Hall, South Floyd took on Powell County in a scrimmage. Hall left Stanton pleased with his high school football team’s performance.
“I was pleased with our scrimmage,” Hall said. “We are not were we want to be but with a young team like ours your goal is to get better each time your one the field. And this group is doing that. I feel we were able to get some good work in against a quality team. We had many positives come from our scrimmage. I like they way this team is coming along.”
South Floyd will make a short trip to Betsy Layne for a season-opener on Friday night. Kickoff for the South Floyd-Betsy Layne football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Raiders are ranked third in the preseason Class A, District 8 poll. South Floyd is picked to finish behind Hazard (10-3) and preseason favorite Pikeville (11-1), both of whom are ranked in multiple preseason Class A Top 10 polls. The Raiders are listed ahead of Jenkins (1-8-1) and Phelps (0-10-1) in the five-team district.
Junior halfback James Little and senior quarterback Hunter Johnson are among the leaders back for the South Floyd football program.
Along with county rival Betsy Layne and its district foes, South Floyd is set to face Harlan, Knott County Central, Twin Valley (Va.), and East Ridge during the upcoming campaign.
