Betsy Layne wins back-to-back matches

The Betsy Layne Ladycats notched back-to-back wins earlier in the week.


BETSY LAYNE – Preseason 15th Region Top 5 team Betsy Layne is 2-0 after opening the 2015 season with back-to-back wins. The Ladycats beat both Shelby Valley and 58th District/Floyd County Conference rival South Floyd earlier in the week.

Betsy Layne, a team under the tutelage of head coach Krissy Crase, blanked Shelby Valley 3-0 in its season-opener on Monday. The Ladycats prevailed 25-9, 25-16, 25-15 in the winning effort.

Remaining in the win column one day later, Betsy Layne defeated 58th District/Floyd County Conference foe South Floyd. Prevailing in similar fashion, Betsy Layne topped its district nemesis 25-11, 25-18, 25-14.

The Ladycats entered the regular-season ranked fourth in the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association (KVCA) Preseason 15th Region Poll. South Floyd was tied for fifth in the same poll.

Betsy Layne will compete in the Johnson Central Serve-It-Up Invitational on Saturday. The field for the Johnson Central-hosted tournament will also include Belfry, East Carter, Phelps, Leslie County, Boyd County, Lewis County, Knott County Central and Russell.

Betsy Layne is scheduled to competed in events at Lafayette and Paintsville high schools later in the season.

Through the first three days of the regular-season, 15th Region volleyball teams shaped up as follows: Betsy Layne, 2-0; East Ridge, 2-0; Prestonsburg, 2-0; Allen Central, 1-0; Pikeville, 1-0; Johnson Central, 1-0; Shelby Valley, 1-1; South Floyd, 1-1; Lawrence County, 0-1; Pike County Central, 0-1; Paintsville, 0-1; Piarist School, 0-1l Magoffin County, 0-2; Phelps, 0-2.
