Kendrick records 2,000th career kill

Katie Kendrick made her approach to set an Allen Central record by getting her 2,000th career kill in the second set of the match at Belfry on Thursday.


BELFRY – The Allen Central volleyball team dominated Belfry for its season win in the 2015 season on Thursday.

Allen Central blanked Belfry 3-0 (25–8, 25–3, 25-11).

The Rebels are back on the court after compiling a 31-8 record in the 2014 season. Allen Central captured its eighth 15th Region All ‘A’ Classic championship, fifth 15th Region championship, ninth Floyd County Conference crown, eighth 58th District title and concluded the campaign ranked 25th in the state in 2014. Allen Central brings back several experienced players and some new contributors. Allen Central players will continue to hustle and play with plenty of determination as veteran head coach, Colonel Larry Maynard, looks to add wins to his 407-158 varsity record.

Katie Kendrick paced the Rebels with 18 kills on .643 hitting in the triumph over Belfry. During the second set of the 15th Region match, Kendrick pounded in her 2,000th career high school kill.

Jannah Halbert dished up 28 assists and served up seven aces for the Rebels.

Defensively, Kendrick led the team in blocks with two stops. Lauryn Stumbo recorded 9 digs. Following Stumbo in the defensive category, Kyra Harmon registered seven digs.

The Rebels made it a sweep as the Allen Central alternate varsity team won 2-0 (21–14, 21–14) and the AC junior varsity recorded its second win. Allen Central’s junior varsity squad won 2-1.

The Rebels were visiting South Floyd on Tuesday. Results from the Allen Central-South Floyd volleyball match were unavailable at press time and will appear in the Friday, Aug. 28 edition of The Times.
