PRESTONSBURG – After rolling past host Pikeville 9-1 in a season-opener on Tuesday, Aug. 18, Prestonsburg hosted Boyd County for a season-opener over the weekend. Boyd County, an opponent out of the neighboring 16th Region, tested Prestonsburg. The girls’ soccer game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Haley Fitzpatrick and Jackie Kidd scored one goal apiece for the Lady Blackcats.
Hannah Little assisted on one of the two Prestonsburg goals.
Defensively, Prestonsburg goalkeeper Maddy Ousley limited Perry County Central to a pair of goals.
“I don’t feel like we played very good,” Prestonsburg Coach Paul Burchett commented. “Boyd County worked harder than we did and we can’t let that happen. It’s a good lesson to learn early in the season. We want to win every time out, but overall it’s not a bad result against a good Boyd County team.”
Five different Prestonsburg players had provided scoring in the Lady Blackcats’ season-opening win over Pikeville.
In the junior varsity game, Prestonsburg beat Boyd County 4-1.
The Prestonsburg and Boyd County girls’ soccer teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
