PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg dropped its season-opener as visiting Pikeville pulled away to win 43-6 in Week 0 at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium on Friday night (Aug. 21).
Dominant Pikeville led 29-0 before Prestonsburg answered offensively.
Visiting Pikeville received a lift from a former Blackcat early with senior Chatlin Jarrell running the game’s opening kickoff back for a 99-yard touchdown.
Pikeville rushed for 408 yards in the win. The Panthers added 67 passing yards in the winning effort.
Leading Pikeville to the win, running back Daric Pugh rushed 23 times for 303 yards and four touchdowns.
Five different Pikeville backs rushed for positive yardage in the triumph.
Cody Charles rushed twice for 46 yards and one touchdown.
Pikeville quarterback Cody Dials, added 40 yards via five rush attempts.
Dials completed six of eight passes for 67 yards.
Leading Pikeville in receiving, Anthony Vanderbeck hauled in three pass receptions for 51 yards.
Blake Charles led the Pikeville defensive effort with 10.5 tackles.
Wyatt Battaile added an interception for the Panther defensive unit.
Prestonsburg will visit Sheldon Clark for a Week 1 matchup this Friday night (Aug. 28). Kickoff for the Prestonsburg-Sheldon Clark football game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Inez.
