EASTERN – The Adams Middle School seventh grade team opened the 2015 season strong, capturing the Right Beaver Classic title during the annual tournament held at Allen Central Middle School.

Adams beat Betsy Layne 33-25 in the opening round of the tournament. Alivia Slone scored 15 points and Destiny Elliott added 12 for the Lady Blackcats in the victory over Betsy Layne.

Adams defeated Allen to advance to meet South Floyd in the championship game.

The Lady Blackcats, under the direction of head coach Mark Martin, topped South Floyd 41-30 in the championship game.

Slone led Adams with a team-high 18 points.

“I’m proud of our girls,” Martin confided. “Alivia (Slone) played very well. Destiny (Elliott) and others had big moments during the game.”

Katie Moore poured in a game-high 26 points for South Floyd in the loss.

“It was a good week for our group on what was a long week for the teams and coaches,” Martin added. “A compliment goes out to our county coaches on the time and effort that each spends with their respective teams. It was a good feeling to come away with a championship. I’m sure each of our teams will improve as the season goes along as will the other county teams.”
