Blackcats blank Shelby Valley, 8-0

PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg blanked visiting 15th Region rival Shelby Valley 8-0 in a boys’ high school soccer game on Thursday.

With the win, Prestonsburg evened its overall record to 2-2.

The Blackcats returned to the win column following a loss to 14th Region title contender Perry County Central two days earlier.

Seven different Prestonsburg players provided scoring in the win. Pacing Prestonsburg offensively, Dean Andler netted a game-high two goals.

Dustin Blair, Nicholas Caudill, Phil Cornett, Zion Echols, Tanner Hall and Cole Ousley added one goal apiece for the Blackcats in the winning effort.

Cornett recorded a game-high five assists in the victory.

Aiding the Prestonsburg attack, Georgory Shepherd added one assist.

Leading Prestonsburg defensively, goalkeeper Dalton Trusty held Shelby Valley scoreless in the early-season 15th Region contest.

Prestonsburg is scheduled to visit Shelby Valley for a rematch on Sept. 21.

Along with Prestonsburg and Shelby Valley, the 15th Region consists of Belfry, Pikeville, Pike County Central, Paintsville and Johnson Central.
