Blackcats earn two shutout wins over Buckhorn

The Prestonsburg boys’ soccer team is 4-2 through its first six games. In addition to two wins over Buckhorn, Prestonsburg owns victories over Shelby Valley and Powell County.


PRESTONSBURG – The Prestonsburg boys’ soccer team posted a pair of wins over Buckhorn to carry a 4-2 record out of the month of August.

Prestonsburg blanked Buckhorn 10-0 on Saturday and enjoyed the same margin of victory when the two teams met on Monday.

Saturday’s game – Prestonsburg 10, Buckhorn 0: Billy Patton recorded a hat trick to lead Prestonsburg past visiting Buckhorn 10-0 in a boys’ high school soccer game on Saturday.

In addition to Patton’s three goals, Dustin Blair and Wesley DePoy scored two times each for the Blackcats.

Dylan Cline, Phil Cornett and Cole Ousley added one goal apiece for Prestonsburg in the win.

Blair, Tanner Hall, Sage Jervis and Dalton Trusty recorded one assist apiece.

Trusty held Buckhorn scoreless from his goalkeeper position.

Monday’s game – Prestonsburg 10, Buckhorn 0: Prestonsburg shut out visiting Buckhorn 10-0 on Monday to improve to 4-2.

Billy Patton paced Prestonsburg with three goals. Along with Patton’s hat trick, Dylan Cline and Wesley DePoy added two goals apiece for the Blackcats.

Grant Minix, Gregory Shepherd and Zach Skaggs contributed one goal apiece as the Blackcats prevailed.

Aiding the Prestonsburg offensive effort, Phil Cornett dealt out eight assists.

Thriving defensively, Prestonsburg goalkeeper Dalton Trusty kept Buckhorn from entering the goal with a kick.
