BETSY LAYNE – Betsy Layne is rebuilding after losing 16 seniors to graduation. The Bobcats, under the direction of head coach Jonathan Parsons, dropped 0-2 following a loss on the road Friday night. Host Morgan County rolled past Betsy Layne blanking the Bobcats 56-0 in a non-district football game.
With the win, Morgan County opened its 2015 season 1-0.
The Bobcats struggled to get going offensively in the non-district matchup. Betsy Layne was limited to less than 100 yards in the shutout loss.
The Cougars took control early and never faltered. Morgan County rushed for 374 total yards in the victory. The Cougars passed for an additional 58 yards in their season-opener.
Leading Morgan County offensively, Hunter Collins rushed seven times for 211 yards and five touchdowns.
Jake Henry and Dakota Ballinger added one rushing touchdown each for the Cougars.
Defensively, Ryan Gibson led Morgan County with 13 tackles. Jared Branham registered 111 tackles and Collins contributed 10 stops for the Cougars.
Betsy Layne is set to host its home opener. The Bobcats will entertain Sheldon Clark for a home opener on Friday, Sept. 4.
Sheldon Clark is 0-2 following back-to-back losses to non-district opponents Paintsville and Prestonsburg. First-year head coach Adam Turner is guiding the Cardinals.
Kickoff for the Betsy Layne-Sheldon Clark football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
