PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg edged visiting Johnson Central 2-1 in a boys’ high school soccer game at StoneCrest on Thursday.
With the win, its fourth straight victory, Prestonsburg improved to 5-2.
Johnson Central dropped to 1-5 with the loss, which was its third straight setback.
Phil Cornett and Tanner Hall scored one goal apiece for Prestonsburg in the victory. Nicholas Caudill provided an assist on one of Prestonsburg’s two goals.
Defensively for Prestonsburg, goalkeeper Dalton Trusty limited to homestanding Johnson Central to only one goal.
Bryce Rice scored Johnson Central’s only goal off an assist from Donovan Ward.
Johnson Central goalkeeper Dalton Collins gave up two goals in the early-September boys’ high school soccer meeting between familiar foes.
Prestonsburg was facing Paintsville in the 15th Region All “A” Classic on Tuesday night. Results from the Prestonsburg-Paintsville boys’ soccer match were unavailable at press time.
The Blackcats have additional regular-season games remaining versus Paintsville, Pikeville, Belfry, Shelby Valley, Letcher County Central, Johnson Central, Pike County Central, Hazard, Russell and Powell County.
