Allen Central captured its fifth straight 15th Region All “A” Classic championship on Thursday.


EASTERN – Allen Central claimed its fifth consecutive 15th Region All “A” Classic championship and its ninth small-school regional title in 10 attempts, defeating Betsy Layne at J.E. Campbell Arena on Thursday.

The Rebels defeated East Ridge 2-0 in the opening round. Allen Central beat East Ridge in back-to-back sets, winning 25-22, 25-14.

Prevailing in the semifinals, Allen Central blanked Pikeville 3-0. The Rebels won 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 over Pikeville in a rematch of last year’s 15th Region All “A” Classic championship match.

Winning the regional small-school championship, Allen Central shut out 58th District/Floyd County Conference rival Betsy Layne 3-0 in the regional title match. The Rebels beat Betsy Layne 25-16, 25-22, 25-9.

Allen Central exited the 15th Region All “A” Classic with a 9-3 record.

The Rebels are scheduled to host Prestonsburg for a 58th District/Floyd County Conference match on Wednesday. Allen Central is slated to compete in the Woodford County Invitational Tournament Friday-Saturday.

The Rebels have additional regular-season matches remaining versus Betsy Layne, Pretsonsburg, South Floyd, Pikeville, Paintsville, Johnson Central and Sheldon Clark.
