Rebels, Blackcats raise money for WWP

EASTERN – The Allen Central and Prestonsburg volleyball teams met for a 58th District/Floyd County Conference match

at J.E. Campbell Arena on Wednesday. The match between the two Floyd County high school volleyball opponents raised money to support the Wounded Warrior Project. Allen Central rolled in the match, blanking Prestonsburg 3-0. The Rebels prevailed 25-9, 25-9, 25-21.

With the win, Allen Central improved to 10-3.

Prestonsburg dropped to 4-6 with the loss.

Last week, Allen Central captured its fifth straight 15th Region All “A” Classic championship. Allen Central shut out district rival Betsy Layne 3-0 in the 15th Region All “A” Classic title tilt.

During the 15th Region All “A” Classic championship match, Katie Kendrick who pounded in 17 kills on .567 hitting. Aiding the Allen Central attack, Sarah Grindrod and Emily Johnson rung up 12 kills and 10 kills, respectively.

Senior setter Jannah Halbert dished up 39 kills and Lauryn Stumbo and Kendrick slapped in a serving ace each.

As a team, Allen Central served at 96 percent in the championship match.

Defensively, Haley Smith led all Allen Central back row players with 13 digs.

Kendrick was credited with 12 digs and Breanna Thompson scooped up 10 for the Rebels.

Kendrick and Grindrod delivered six solo blocks and one block assist each and Julia Flanery contributed one block assist.

Allen Central will compete in the Woodford County Invitational Tournament Friday-Saturday.
