UPIKE Cross Country team opens season at Centre

DANVILLE – The University of Pikeville men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their 2015 seasons at the Centre College Invitational on Saturday morning.

The Pikeville women finished seventh with 173 total points in the opening five-kilometer race, while the men took ninth place in the 8K with 262 points.

Sabrina Elliott led all UPIKE harriers in 25th place in the women’s race, tallying a time of 21 minutes and 59.5 seconds. The men’s leader was Chris Leadford in 65th place with a time of 32:17.78.

Host Centre won the women’s title with a score of 37, followed by Asbury in second and Berea in third. Centre’s Serena Gale-Butto took the individual championship with a time of 19:22.79.

On the men’s side, Berea took top honors with 47 points, while the men’s individual title went to Victor Pataky from Centre with a showing of 26:36.09.
