Rhinesmith, UPIKE women’s team captures Asbury Shootout title

NICHOLASVILLE – The University of Pikeville women’s golf team didn’t waste any time picking up a win this season, shooting a two-round 640 to win the Asbury Shootout on Tuesday at the Connemara Golf Club.

The 640 total strokes are a program record, as is the 319 score tallied during Tuesday’s final round.

Midway finished second with a 649, Asbury was third with 670 and Georgetown rounded out the standings with 704 strokes.

Ayla Rhinesmith paced the Bears, carding a 156 (76-80) to finish first overall on the individual leaderboard as well. Ashley Veach backed her up with 158 strokes (80-78) and Bethany Jeruis carded a 161 (78-83). Brittany Brophy and Christen Cropper rounded out the list with 168’s.

Rhinesmith also shot the low round of the shootout, tallying a 76 in Monday’s opening round.

UPIKE will be back in action on Oct. 1-2 in the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament at the Elks Country Club in Portsmouth, Ohio.
