LOUISVILLE – The tradition-rich Allen Central volleyball program reached the semifinals of the All “A” Classic state tournament on Saturday.
Allen Central seniors Katie Kendrick and Sarah Grindrod were selected to the all-tournament team.
The Rebels defeated Kentucky Country Day 2-0 (25-12, 25-11) in their opening match.
Following the win over Kentucky Country Day, Allen Central topped Monroe County 2-0 (25-19, 25-8). With the win over Monroe County, Allen Central was declared the winner of its pool and placed in the Championship brackets.
Prior to competing in the championship brackets, Allen Central defeated Edmonson County 2-0 (25-5, 25-16) in its final pool play match.
In its first match in championship play, Allen Central outlasted Bethlehem 2-1, winning 25-18, 22-25, 25-20.
But the Rebels couldn’t get past Presentation.
A powerhouse out of Louisville, Presentations shutout Allen Central 2-0, prevailing 25-19, 25-8.
With the loss to Presentation, Allen Central fell to 19-5.
Allen Central remains one of the state’s top high school volleyball teams and will vie for a fifth consecutive 15th Region championship in October.
The Rebels are scheduled to visit Prestonsburg for a 58th District/Floyd County Conference match on Thursday. Allen Central is slated to host South Floyd for another district/conference match on Tuesday (Sept. 29).
The Rebels have additional regular-season matches remaining versus Pikeville, Betsy Layne, Paintsville, Johnson Central and Sheldon Clark,
