EASTERN – The Allen Central Rebels defeated the visiting South Floyd Raiders 38-12 in a non-district football game on Friday night. Leading the Rebels to victory, running back Steven Howard rushed 18 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
With the win, Allen Central improved to 3-1.
South Floyd slipped to 1-3 with the loss.
As a team, Allen Central rushed for 285 yards. Directly behind Howard in the Allen Central rushing column, Jesse Brown added 77 yards and one touchdown via 10 carries.
Jordon Patton rushed six times for 44 yards and one touchdown for the Rebels in the winning effort.
Allen Central quarterback Dylan Caudill completed 6-of-10 passes for 134 yards and one interception.
Caudill completed three passes to Rico Dominguez. Howard, Patton and Brody Smith hauled in one reception apiece for the Rebels.
Delivering defensively, Allen Central limited South Floyd to 87 rushing yards. Fairing better through the air, South Floyd passed for 194 yards. South Floyd, however, suffered from five interceptions and a fumble, which Chase Caudill returned for a touchdown.
Chase Soler paced the Allen Central defense with a team-high 13 tackles. Zach Williams registered 11 tackles and Caudill contributed 10 stops for the Rebels.
Both Allen Central and South Floyd are due back on the field on Friday, Sept. 25.
The Rebels are slated to visit East Ridge for a Class 2A, District 8 game. Following Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) realignment, Allen Central and East Ridge are newcomers to Class 2A.
The Raiders are scheduled to venture to Pikeville for a Class 1A, District 8 matchup.
Kickoff for each high school football contest is set for 7:30 p.m.
