BETSY LAYNE – Betsy Layne dropped a non-district game to Knott County Central on Friday night. Visiting Knott County Central edged the Bobcats 44-40 in the non-district high school football affair.

With the loss, Betsy Layne dropped to 0-5.

Knott County Central improved to 3-1 with the win.

The Patriots, under the direction of new head coach John Chapman, notched their second straight win. Knott County Central pulled away to defeat South Floyd 50-40 in another early-season game on Sept. 11.

Knott County Central quarterback Cameron Jones completed 16-of-32 passes for 321 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Tyler Kidd led Knott County Central in receiving, reeling in six receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown.

Pacing the Patriots on the ground, Luke Jacobs rushed 23 times for 146 yards and five touchdowns.

Drea Stamper led the Knott County Central defensive unit with a game-high 145 tackles.

Betsy Layne wasn’t without its share of highlights in the non-district meeting. Bobcat quarterback Jordan Kendrick completed 17-of-21 passes for 291 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the short effort.

Kyle Watkins and Morgan Tackett hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Bobcats,

Leading Betsy Layne on the ground, Tackett rushed 12 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

In addition to his nearly 300 passing yards and two scoring tosses, Kendrick rushed seven times for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

Bradley Woods led the Betsy Layne defensive effort with seven tackles. John Hall and Zach Hamilton followed, finishing with six tackles each for the Bobcats.

Watkins registered an interception, returning the pick 57 yards.

Betsy Layne is scheduled to visit Leslie County on Friday, Sept. 25. Kickoff for the Betsy Layne-Leslie County football game is set for 7:P30 p.m. in Hyden.
