LICK CREEK – East Ridge prevented Allen Central from winning a Class 2A, District 8 opener on Friday night. Playing at home, East Ridge edged visiting Allen Central 26-24 in the mid-season high school football matchup.
With the win, East Ridge improved to 2-3 overall and opened district competition 1-0.
Allen Central slipped to 3-2 overall and started district play 0-1 with the loss.
East Ridge’s victory halted a two-game Allen Central win streak.
Leading East Ridge to the win, Brody Johnson rushed 35 times for 203 yards and two touchdowns.
As a team, East Ridge rushed for 341 yards.
Leighton Miler and Trey Miller added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Warriors.
Leighton Miller ranked as East Ridge’s second-leading rusher, scampering 16 times for 84 yards.
Trey Little added 58 yards on nine carries for the Warriors.
Pacing East Ridge defensively, Leighton Miller delivered a team-high 10 tackles.
Another East Ridge defender, Kenkoda Rife, contributed eight tackles in the emotional victory.
Allen Central was limited throughout the district game. Leading the Rebels defensively, Chase Soler registered a game-high 18 tackles.
Cameron Evans posted 10 tackles, Steven Howard nine, Josh King eight and Zach Williams seven.
Dylan Caudill recorded an interceptions and King recovered a fumble for the Rebels.
Offensively, Jesse Brown scored two of Allen Central’s three touchdowns.
Caudill added one touchdown for the Rebels.
Howard scored a pair of two-point conversions.
Another Rebel, Rico Dominguez, added another conversion.
Allen Central is scheduled to visit Leslie County for another Class 2A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 2. Kickoff for the Allen Central-Leslie County football game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Hyden.
