STAFFORDSVILLE – On September 20, the Tug Valley Bass Anglers fishing club held its seventh tournament of the 2015 season on Paintsville Lake. A total of 29 anglers competed in the event. Veteran angler Brandon Staten won the tournament, finishing over with a total catch of over two pounds more than the next closest angler.
Paintsville Lake was at normal pool with a water temperature around 75 degrees.
Weather for the tournament was good with sunny skies and an air temperature in the mid to upper 70s.
The fish were caught in the creeks and on the main lake from 1 to 20 foot of water and seemed to be nowhere in particular.
The main pattern for the tournament was to fish spinnerbaits and top water early in the morning then slow down and fish tight to cover with soft plastics after the sun came out.
The top finishers for the tournament were as follows: 1st – Brandon Staten (5 fish), 9.79 lbs.; 2nd – Tommy Hopkins (5 fish), 7.24 lbs.; 3rd – Bryan Fields (5 fish), 5.18 lbs.; 4th – Johnny Webb (5 fish), 4.70 lbs.; 5th – Rod Varney (5 fish), 4.47 lbs.; 6th – Lynn Fields (5 fish), 4.24 lbs.; 7th – Don Taylor (5 fish), 3.73 lbs.; 8th – Gary Varney (5 fish), 3.40 lbs.; 9th – Greg Maynard (5 fish), 3.25 lbs.; 10th – Keith Pacific (5 fish), 3.13 lbs.
