COLUMBIA – Fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson was too much for the University of Pikeville volleyball team on Tuesday night, tallying a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-10) win in Mid-South Conference play at Biggers Sports Center.
The Bears drop to 11-15 overall and 0-11 against conference competition, while the Blue Raiders are 19-3 overall and 9-1 in MSC play.
With a limited roster and playing a top-five team on the road, UPIKE struggled to get anything going on the attack, finishing with a .037 team hitting percentage Cassidy Tackett led the Bears with just five kills, two other players, Connor Cook and Sydney Hall, finished with four each.
Lindsey Wilson didn’t have the same difficulty, instead hitting at a .442 clip with Ragni Knudson leading the charge in a big way with 15 kills on 30 swings. Grace Blomstedt paced the defense with three blocks and Caitlyn Tino chipped in with 13 digs. Makenzie Montano was efficient running the offense with 30 assists.
Rachel Murphy and Brooke Moore combined for the most UPIKE assists with 12 and 5, respectively. Hall and Tackett sent back three blocks each and Murphy found 10 digs in the losing effort. The Bears, which came into the match ranked third nationally in service aces, hit just one from Moore.
UPIKE never led and fell behind 11-0 in the first set, 10-3 in the second and 17-2 in the third and final frame. Those deficits were too much to overcome for the Bears as the Blue Raiders led by as many as 16 points in the third set.
