PRESTONSBURG – Playing one day early didn’t phase the Prestonsburg Blackcats. Taking care of business on the gridiron, Prestonsburg shut out visiting East Ridge 49-0 in a Class 2A, District 8 football game at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium on Thursday night (Oct. 1).
With the win, Prestonsburg evened its overall record to 3-3 and improved to 1-1 in Class 2A, District 8.
East Ridge dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the district with the loss.
Prestonsburg amassed 338 yards of total offense. The Blackcats rushed for 260 yards in the convincing victory.
Leading the Blackcats offensively, Steven Little rushed four times for 100 yards and three touchdowns.
Following Little in the Prestonsburg rushing column, Zach Roberts, Dalton Frasure and Wesley Hager rushed for one touchdown apiece.
Roberts ranked as Prestonsburg’s second-leading rusher, taking six carries for 83 yards.
Frasure rushed five times for 52 yards in the Blackcats’ triumph.
Prestonsburg quarterback Bailey Slone completed his lone pass attempt. Slone connected with Frasure on a 78-yard scoring pass.
Defensively, Paul Stanley paced Prestonsburg with a game-high 10 tackles and one fumble recovery.
Slone posted eight tackles and Dalton Bowe contributed six stops.
Dylan Kidd and Ryne Slone chipped in six tackles apiece for Prestonsburg, which halted a two-game losing skid.
The East Ridge offense was held to 102 yards of total offense in the lopsided loss.
Tristan Bingham, Paul Grigsby and Trey Little led the East Ridge defensive effort with four tackles apiece.
Prestonsburg will host undefeated Leslie County for another district game on Friday.
