Bobcats suffer shutout loss to Shelby Valley

Logan Layne registered a game-high eight tackles for Betsy Layne in its Class 2A, District 8 game versus Shelby Valley.


ROBINSON CREEK – Betsy Layne fell behind early and couldn’t reach the end zone in its latest outing. Host Shelby Valley kept Betsy Layne winless, shutting out the Bobcats 56-0 on Thursday (Oct. 1).

With the win, Shelby Valley improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Class 2A, District 8.

Following the loss, Betsy Layne dropped to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the district.

Shelby Valley rushed for 383 yards. In all, five different Shelby Valley players rushed for a touchdown.

Leading Shelby Valley to the win, Chandler Rowe rushed three times for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

Kasey Tackett, Seth Johnson, Jordan Hampton and Toby Hall added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Wildcats. Shelby Valley’s second-leading rusher, Tackett took four carries for 83 yards. Johnson, not too far behind Tackett in the Shelby Valley rushing column, added 81 yards via four carries.

Shelby Valley quarterback Donavon Layne completed 3-of-6 passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

Austin Elswick and Jordan Hampton hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Wildcats.

Trevor Wright paced the Shelby Valley defense with eight tackles.

Helping Shelby Valley record the shutout, Luke Adkinson added five tackles for the Wildcats.

Betsy Layne was limited to 94 total yards in the loss.

Leading the Bobcats offensively, quarterback Jordan Kendrick rushed 15 times for 26 yards. Kendrick completed 2-of-11 passes for 22 yards and one interception.

Morgan Tackett hauled in both of Kendrick’s pass completions.

Logan Layne led the Betsy Layne defensive effort with eight tackles, sharing game-high honors with Shelby Valley’s Wright. Another Bobcat defender, Grant Tackett, contributed seven tackles.

Betsy Layne is scheduled to visit Floyd County rival Allen Central for another Class 2A, District 8 game on Friday night.
