HYDEN – Austin Smith rushed 17 times for 82 yards and three touchdowns to lead Leslie County past Allen Central 27-0 in a Class 2A, District 8 football game on Friday night.

With the win, Leslie County remained undefeated, moving to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Class 2A, District 8.

Allen Central, an opponent out of Floyd County, dropped to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the district with the loss.

Leslie County amassed 268 yards of total offense.

Directly behind Smith in the Leslie County rushing column, Justin Collett added 63 yards via 13 carries. Other Leslie County players who rushed for positive yardage in the win were Taten Smith, Seth Melton, Luke Lewis, Allen Hacker, Cullen Pennington, Christopher Sebastian and Kyle Whitaker.

Quarterback Kevin Whitaker completed 4-of-13 passes for 52 yards and one interception in the winning effort. Whitaker and his teammates had less than ideal conditions as pouring rain hindered the Eagles’ passing attack during the district game.

Defensively for Leslie County, Zack Perry returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown. Conner Bray and Ryan Simpson also added one interception apiece for the Eagles in the shutout win.

Allen Central, a newcomer to Class 2A after making the move up from Class 1A via Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) alignment, pushed Leslie County on multiple possessions. The Rebels, however, found themselves held out of the end zone.

Leslie County is scheduled to visit longtime rival Prestonsburg for a key Class 2A, District 8 game on Friday night.

Prestonsburg is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in Class 2A, District 8 through its first six games.

Kickoff for the Leslie County-Prestonsburg district game is set for 7:30 p.m.
