PIKEVILLE – A Prestonsburg youth basketball program continues to excel on the travel circuit. The Prestonsburg Ballerz, a sixth grade boys’ basketball team, won the Kentucky BCI Challenge at Pikeville in late-May.
The Ballerz defeated Millard and the East Kentucky Ballers to claim the tournament title. Dominating throughout the tournament, Prestonsburg defeated both of its opponents easily as 20 points separated the Ballerz and their foes in each matchup.
Following its championship-clinching victory, Prestonsburg defeated a middle school team from Hazard.
Prestonsburg continues to play and practice with different players showing up nightly due to baseball practices and games.
The Prestonsburg youth basketball program will field several teams to participate in the summer league at the Knott County Sportsplex starting in July. The Knott County Sportsplex-hosted league will include numerous area teams. Open gym for Prestonsburg youth basketball players will be available in late-July.
