Rebels earn district win over county rival

Allen Central will host Floyd County rival Prestonsburg for a Class 2A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 16. The Rebels already own wins over Floyd County opponents South Floyd and Betsy Layne, another district foe.


EASTERN – The Allen Central Rebels halted a two-game losing skid in their latest outing, shutting out the visiting Betsy Layne Bobcats 46-0 in a Class 2A, District 8 football game on Friday night.

Continuing to struggle, Betsy Layne remained winless.

With the win, Allen Central improved to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in Class 2A, District 8.

Betsy Layne slipped to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the district with the loss.

Allen Central amassed 302 yards of total offense. The Rebels rushed for 236 yards in the district victory.

Leading a balanced Allen Central rushing effort, Steven Howard rushed 11 times for 67 yards. The Rebels were able to gain yardage on the ground throughout the district affair.

Jesse Brown rushed six times for 51 yards and two touchdowns for the Rebels. Adding two touchdowns of his own, quarterback Dylan Caudill rushed nine times for 35 yards and a pair of scores.

Jordan Patton ranked as Allen Central’s second-leading rusher, carrying the football six times for 44 yards.

Through the air, Caudill completed 5-of-7 passes for 66 yards and one touchdown.

Caudill completed an 18-yard scoring pass to Brown.

Rico Dominguez emerged as Caudill’s top target. Dominguez, one of the area’s most underrated receivers, hauled in four receptions for 48 yards.

Defensively, Caudill, Logan Conley and Josh King delivered one interception apiece for the Rebels.

King posted a team-high five tackles in Allen Central’s shutout win.

Betsy Layne suffered its fifth shutout loss in the 2015 season.

Allen Central is scheduled to host Floyd County foe Prestonsburg (3-4 overall, 1-2 district) for a Class 2A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 16.

Betsy Layne is slated to entertain East Ridge in another Class 2A, District 8 matchup.

Kickoff for each upcoming Class 2A, District 8 game is set for 7:30 p.m.
