BARDSTOWN – The University of Pikeville men’s golf team’s dominance this fall continued on Tuesday as it won the St. Catharine Fall Tournament at the Bardstown Country Club at Maywood.
It’s the third win in four tries for the Bears as they topped host St. Catharine by 16 strokes. UPIKE tallied a two-day total of 604 (294-310) strokes, while the Patriots came in second with a score of 620 (308-312). Asbury and Fisk (Tenn.) tied for third overall with scores of 627.
Tyler Smith led the Bears tied for second place overall after carding a 148 (73-75), followed by Saulomon Lanigan with a 149 (74-75) to tie for fourth and Will Boyd tied for sixth with a score of 151 (71-80). Burgess Clark took eighth place to himself with 156 strokes (76-80).
St. Catharine’s Michael Hardin won the individual title after a playoff with Smith and Asbury’s Matthew McCurry. Hardin carded a 75 on day one and a 73 on Tuesday.
Kelly Porter also finished in the top 10 overall for the Bears, tallying a 157 (80-77) to tie for ninth place.
Smith, Lanigan and Boyd were named to the all-tournament team.
