Blackcats drop district game to Leslie County

PRESTONSBURG – The Prestonsburg Blackcats couldn’t make an early lead stick in their latest outing. After falling behind early, visiting Leslie County fought back to beat Prestonsburg 30-20 in a Class 2A, District 8 football game at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium on Friday night.

With the win, Leslie County moved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in Class 2A, District 8.

Prestonsburg dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the district with the loss.

The Eagles amassed 328 yards of total offense in the winning effort.

Leading Leslie County to the district win, quarterback Kevin Whitaker completed 11-of-30 -passes for 192 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Whitaker completed a pass to six different receivers. Lucas Vance hauled in a pair of touchdown pass receptions in the Eagles’ triumph.

The Leslie County quarterback also led his team on the ground. Whitaker rushed 13 times for 98 yards and one touchdown.

Following Whitaker in the Leslie County rushing column, Justin Collett rushed three times for 28 yards and one score.

Defensively for the Eagles, Brady Crisp recorded an interception.

Leslie County has outscored opponents 260-66 through seven games.

Pacing Prestonsburg offensively, Dalton Frasure rushed 26 times for 165 yards and one touchdown.

Following Frasure in the Prestonsburg rushing column, Steven Little rushed 15 times for 115 yards and one score.

Prestonsburg quarterback Bailey Slone completed 7-of-12 passes for 57 yards and one touchdown.

Wesley Hager hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass reception for the Blackcats.

Leading Prestonsburg defensively, Paul Stanley logged a game-high nine tackles. Drake Nunnery registered eight tackles while Frasure, Little and Jordan Ray posted seven stops apiece. In addition to his seven tackles, Little notched an interception.

Prestonsburg will visit Allen Central for a Class 2A, District 8 football game on Friday, Oct. 16. Kickoff for the Prestonsburg-Allen Central football game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Eastern.
