CENTERVILLE, Ohio – The University of Pikeville men’s bowling team came up just short of qualifying for the eight-team championship round of the Orange & Black Classic with a 12th-place finish after tallying a total pin fall of 7,412 on Sunday at Poelking Lanes South.
Morehead State was the last team to earn a spot in the bracket round with a score of 7,683. Calumet qualified first with a score of 8,134, Lindenwood (Mo.) qualified second at 8,009 and Notre Dame finished third with 7,975 pins.
Michael Fonseca paced UPIKE in the individual standings in 43rd place with 953 pins through six games played. Two players on the junior-varsity teams were next for the Bears as Tyler Craft finished 61st with a score of 918 and Austin Louden came in 63rd with 917 pins.
Lindenwood’s Michael Coffee led all bowlers with a score of 1,094, followed by St. Joseph’s Cory Wiles and Matt Kuba in second-place and third-place, respectively.
The University of Pikeville men’s and women’s bowling teams will compete in the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic in Marietta, Ga., Nov. 7-8.
