Blackcats finish runner-up in 57th District

PRESTONSBURG – The Prestonsburg Blackcats finished runner-up in the 58th District Boys’ Soccer Tournament. Paintsville blanked tournament host Prestonsburg 3-0 in the 57th District Boys’ Soccer Tournament championship game at StoneCrest Sportspark on Thursday.

A pair of Paintsville players broke into the scoring column. Stepping up and performing well, Brett Bartley paced Paintsville, scoring two of the Tigers’ three goals.

Accompanying Bartley in the Paintsville scoring column, Henry Graden added one goal.

Paintsville fared well offensively and defensively throughout the tournament match.

Brent Bartley delivered a pair of assists for Paintsville in the victory.

Sander Bjerre added one assist for the Tigers in the winning effort.

Leading the Paintsville defensive effort, goalkeeper Joao Dos Santos held the Blackcats out of the net.

The Tigers improved to 11-5-1 with the win.

With the loss, Prestonsburg dropped to 11-9-0.

Both Paintsville and Prestonsburg advanced to the 15th Region Boys’ Soccer Tournament, which Belfry High School is hosting. The remainder of the 15th Region Boys’ Soccer Tournament field features Belfry and Paintsville.
